July 2021 Changes

From 8th July 2021 the main insurer of our travel insurance products has changed from Union Reiseversicherung AG (URV) to White Horse Insurance Ireland dac . Our cover and prices have not been affected by this change. More information can be found here.

May 2021 Changes

As of the 5th May 2021, Spectrum Travel Insurance Policies have had the following amends made.

All schemes sold directly though our website now have Covid Cover under the following sections:

  • Cancellation
    • you, anyone insured on this policy, or a travel companion, became ill, were injured or died;
    • you, anyone insured on this policy, or a travel companion, were diagnosed with an infectious disease within 14 days of your trip starting (including contracting Covid-19);
    • you, anyone insured on this policy, or a household member had to isolate at home due to Covid-19;
    • you, anyone insured on this policy, or a family member were hospitalised or died due to Covid-19;
  • Curtailment
    • you, anyone insured on this policy, or a travel companion, became ill, were injured or died during your trip;
    • you, anyone insured on this policy, or a travel companion, were diagnosed with an infectious disease during your trip (including contracting Covid-19);
    • you, anyone insured on this policy, or a family member, were hospitalised or died due to Covid-19 during your trip;
  • Denial of Boarding on your outbound journey
    • You were denied boarding on the return journey of your trip due to having or being suspected of having an infectious disease (including Covid-19).
  • Abandonment
    • Denial of Boarding on your return journey
      • You, or anyone insured on this policy, were denied boarding by your transport provider on the outward journey of your trip due to having or being suspected of having an infectious disease including Covid-19.
  • If you are admitted to a public hospital or confined to your trip accommodation
    • During your trip abroad, you were admitted to a public hospital as an inpatient for emergency and necessary medical treatment or confined to your trip accommodation on medical advice.
    • Unused excursions due to having to isolate in your trip accommodation
      • £250 towards the cost of your pre-paid excursion that you are unable to go on during your trip due to having to isolate as a result of an infectious disease including Covid-19.

Other changes:

  • From 5th May you must purchase our specialist Cruise Extension if your trip involves a cruise.  We define a cruise as “a pleasure voyage of more than 72 hours duration, sailing on sea/s or oceans and/or including stops at various ports”.The wordings and set up of the schemes has been broken down and layout has changed
  • The activity packs have also changed
  • Complete removal of all administration fees
  • Gadget cover is now covered as standard on the following schemes:
    • Gold
    • Platinum
    • Platinum Plus
    • Diamond
    • Staycation
  • We are no longer offering the Bronze cover level as after review, it was decided that this product did not offer our minimum standards of cover

October 2020 Changes

From 13th October 2020 we are now once again partnered with Verisk to offer their medical screening tool for customers who need to declare medical conditions.

September 2020 Changes

From 24th September 2020 our Staycation Plus Single and Multi Trip policies also include enhanced cover for COVID-19 – click here for more details.

August 2020 Changes

From 25th August 2020 our Diamond Single and Multi Trip policies include:

  • Cancellation cover if you are anyone named on the policy test positive for Coronavirus up to 14 days prior to travelling.
  • Denied boarding cover if you and anyone named on the policy are prevented entry at the airport on your inbound flight due to showing symptoms of COVID-19 .

March 2020 Changes

From 13th March 2020, there is no cover under our policies for:

  • Cancellation, abandonment or curtailment claims if the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) advises you not to travel, for example where the FCDO advise against all but essential travel to an area affected by Coronavirus, COVID-19, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-COV-2) or any mutation of Coronavirus, COVID-19 or SARs-COV-2.
  • Any claims as a result of Coronavirus, COVID-19, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-COV-2), any mutation of Coronavirus, COVID-19 or SARs-COV-2 or any pandemic or fear or threat of any the above. Except for Section B** Emergency Medical Expenses. This will only apply if you did not travel against the published advice of the FCDO, any local government, local authority or WHO.
